How to Get to Old Orhei (Trebujeni, Butuceni) from Orhei

The Old Orhei Museum Complex is one of the most spectacular tourist sites in Moldova, spread across the villages of Trebujeni and Butuceni, in the meander of the Răut river. Here visitors discover a cave monastery carved into the rock, the hilltop Nativity of the Virgin church and a canyon landscape opening wide over the valley.

The area has been inhabited and fortified for thousands of years, and the view from the Butuceni plateau is among the most photographed in the country. A relaxed visit takes several good hours, especially if you climb to the cave monastery and descend toward the village.

From the town of Orhei to Trebujeni is about 18 km, on a road that passes through Susleni and scenic rural areas. Public transport to these villages is rare and on a limited schedule, and the last part of the route is not always convenient without your own car.
